What’s an Agrihood?

Rooted’s mission and vision are upheld by three strategic branches.

1 – The agrihood located on the grounds of Kortright Presbyterian Church provides food for educational programming, neighbours, and the local foodbank.
2 – Environmental education programming includes classes, Summer Camp, and seminars.
3 – Resources on eco-theology, biblical care of creation, and educational curriculum that we have designed at Rooted for use at other churches and schools.

Agrihood

Check out our up and coming agrihood!
If you are thinking, ‘what is an agrihood?’ you are in good company!

Summer Camp

Rooted day camp will give you the “away” camp experience while staying right here in Guelph. Campers will spend the day almost entirely outdoors: hiking, exploring the forest, learning in the garden and agrihood, doing team building activities, and learning new skills (like seed saving, making jam, crocheting, and more!)
During our daily worship time we will sing songs and hear from camp speakers and talk about faith and spirituality in small group time. This one-of-a-kind camp experience offers environmental education, hands-on learning, and a space to learn about faith while caring for creation.
For kids entering grades SK-6. $240 for the week.
Registration goes live Feb. 2.

Story of Rooted

In 2022, as part of her PhD research, Rev. Konnie Vissers started “The Children’s Garden Collective,” which has planted four urban children’s gardens through local churches.
This grassroots initiative has grown into what is today Rooted: Centre for Theology and Eco-Justice. Rooted’s work seeks to bolster resilience in kids and youth who face eco-anxiety, by reconnecting with nature in the garden and learning sustainable practices for growing food.
